We at Experience Coco are doing the prep work for you – testing out the many different boat and ocean tours from Playas del Coco to help you find the perfect boat trip for your stay (in) Coco.

Our latest adventure – a private ocean adventure with Rockdivers Costa Rica.

Rockdivers Costa Rica dive boat playas del coco

Rockdivers Costa Rica is the #1 dive company in Playas del Coco, according to TripAdvisor, but what many may not realize is that they also offer a variety of other ocean adventures, from beach hopping and snorkeling to beach barbeques and sunset cruises.

To date, we’ve been on three different Rockdivers Costa Rica ocean adventures and each one has been unique. The one thing they all have in common? EVERYONE got off the boat happy and smiling.

The Rockdivers’ crew is small, with owner Rocky, Carli and Captain Manuel, but it’s this small team that ensures personalized attention to the details of your trip.

Since these are private ocean adventures, each trip is customized to be what the guests desire, whether that’s seeing beautiful crystal clear water and snorkeling, a private BBQ on the beach, or making your way down the coast to the oldest bar in Costa Rica.

My first trip with Rockdivers was a combination beach hopping/snorkeling/sunset cruise in December. We left from Coco around 10am and headed south, to a secluded beach with crystal clear water. We were the only people on the beach! It was an ideal location for snorkeling, and others in our group saw lots of fish and other sea creatures when snorkeling by the rocks.

After a few hours here, and several rounds of drinks, we loaded back up on the boat to head a bit further south for lunch at Las Brisas, a beach front bar/restaurant in Potrero that boasts the title of Oldest Bar in Costa Rica. They’re known for their Kick-Ass Margaritas…and my advice is to not try to drink more than two if you plan on getting back to the boat!

Las Brisas Bar Playa Potrero

From Las Brisas, we headed back to Coco, arriving just before sunset.

My second trip with Rockdivers was a little different – a straight up booze cruise with no restaurant stop. We left Coco in the afternoon and headed north, to a different but equally beautiful beach. From the minute we got on the boat, unlimited drinks were offered. Local beer, rum and coke, vodka cranberry…you name it, Rockdivers had it ready, along with some snacks like chips and salsa. (Everyone on our boat wanted liquor or beer but wine is also an option if you let them know in advance.)

Beautiful beach visited on a sunset cruise from Playas del Coco with Rockdivers Costa Rica

We spent the afternoon relaxing at the beach, soaking up the sun, before heading back to Coco just in time for sunset.

My third trip with Rockdivers happened just recently and was meant to be similar to my first but ended up a bit differently – we took a whale-watching detour!

Instead of hitting the beach on our way to Las Brisas, we headed further out to sea, keeping our eyes peeled for the elusive whales that had been spotted recently in the area…and Rocky led us straight to them. We were able to spot and follow one whale as he circled the Catalina islands, most likely eating. While we didn’t get to see him fully breach, our group DID get to see splashes and sprays and I must say just knowing that there’s such an incredible animal near you in the water is an indescribable feeling.

After our whale friend swam away, we headed to Las Brisas for lunch, margaritas and an overall good time. The ride back to Coco was blissful, after a perfect boozy day shared with friends.

If you’re looking for an all-inclusive private tour with unlimited drinks, snacks, and a guaranteed good time, I can honestly say Rockdivers is the way to go.

On each of these trips, we were with a group of adults, usually a mix of local expats and visitors. However, Rockdivers is also a great option for families. The personalization attention given by the Rockdivers team is ideal for tours with kids, as they will customize the tour to be perfect for your family. What better way to spend your family vacation than visiting private beaches and snorkeling?

The one Rockdivers tour option I haven’t had a chance to try yet but am looking forward to is their all-day beach adventure with a barbeque. Most boats will give you sandwiches for lunch or maybe grill up some hot dogs. Not Rockdivers – their beach BBQs include grilled chicken, stuffed peppers, potato salad and more.

Below is a recap of a few options offered by Rockdivers – each tour is customizable and if your dream ocean adventure isn’t here, give them an email and they’ll make it happen! Rocky’s #1 goal is to make sure everyone on his boat is happy.

  • Booze Cruise to Las Brisas Bar – stop at a beautiful beach before cruising down to Las Brisas for lunch and drinks
  • Beach Hopping Sunset Cruise – unlimited drinks, multiple stunning beaches….what else could you ask for?
  • Family Snorkeling & Beach Hopping – visit a few beaches and snorkeling spots
  • Beach BBQ – in addition to visiting pristine beaches and snorkeling, why not enjoy lunch on one too?
